(9) Tragedy of Macbeth

Above was taken from a website. Interesting. Son of life. Macbeth (read Macbeast) means son of life. Yet, he has no offspring. When his life ends, he has no more life/soul to continue his Life and Legacy. Such a tragic. Emotionally painful tragedy for a man of great ambition. Super tragic for a person who slaughtered innocent lives, betrays great companion for the throne he had short. A tragedy which even once the helm of Scotland could not even avoid.

Macbeth  also can be translated as "A man of religion". Yes, religion. Not cult nor satanic. But religion. Dont be confused, religion has nothing to do with any tragedy. But the bearer of the name does. It is such a tragedy when "a man of religion" had commit such heinous and insane deeds as Macbeast has done. Regicide, betrayal, treason and involved in witchcraft. How can the bearer of the name of religion could associate himself in such sinful acts. How tragic those caught witches been burnt alive, while a person who bears the name of religion was left free.

Too much of tragedies in this play. Even the title of the play contains the word tragedy. The name Macbeth which has such meaningful meanings ends up with such tragic person. I would say, it is the mother of all tragedy.

Side note: As for dummies in literature, Old English can be considered a tragedy. Although we can't see tragedies coming, but we can always think of a way to overcome them.

(8) Persona Poem

I have chosen Macbeth for my persona poem. Since the title of the play is named after Macbeth, then why shouldn't I compose a poem for him, right?

As I said earlier, Shakespeare was such a wise man. He could envision that men will never change when it comes to power. Macbeth, strive through blood and bodies to capture his non-deserved throne. One may say he is a coward. Say as you want, but you can't escape from reality. What reality does Macbeast brought? The reality of using others as pawn to achieve our goal. What makes it difference is on how the mastermind used his pawn. Either it is to seem ethical and white, or radical and pitch black.

Macbeast was being realistic. Although if he had the guts to murder Duncan and Banquo with his own hands, the job was too risky. How realistic is it when you are guarding your image to your own people? How would you rule a nation fully when you have murder scandal surrounds you? What more regicide?

Macbeast sure knows how to deal with the public. He must have great Public Relation officers. But not all seem to learn from him. Still, Macbeast unable to hold on his throne for long. Although the casualties are only:  King Duncan, his two chamberlains, Macbeth's fellow general Banquo, Lady Macduff and her children

Not even 10. What more 800,000? So Rwanda, Yugoslavia and many others, you may learn to hide your shits if you want to take control. Ya right, how'd you hide an elephant carcass under a carpet.

I pray the world will stop kill each other.

Macbeth,

Cunning, safe-playing, Scottish and witty,

The hyena of Scotland,

Who kills his fellow companion, king for glory,

Who stops being humane to seize the bloody throne,

Who is haunted by mere dagger and Banquo's spectre,

(7) Dagger versus backstabbers

I can see many of our classmates have talked about hallucinating Macbeast. Macbeast has hallucinated of flying dagger sort like that. Dagger. Dagger has struck my start-to-be-suffocating haired head. Why dagger? Here what I have found on dagger.

As in my own prior knowledge, I found many assassin characters in cartoons and video games are armed with dagger, and their moves almost all named back-stab.

Dagger and back-stab, are very common to be associated together. Backstab is a form of traitor and treason. In the play, Macbeast have backstabbed his closest companion, Banquo. Soon, he hallucinated of dagger. This, in my opinion, is a way for Shakespeare to strengthen the backstabbing event of Macbeth in the story.

Why Macbeastdidn’t  get crazy over a broadsword? The English and Scottish are well known for their mastery in broadsword as the Japanese are popular with their katanas. And the Spanish if I am not mistaken with their pointy sword. I don’t know what they are called. Ok wait I just go and google it. Haha. Right, the Spanish swords are called the Rapier. Such a monstrous name.

Back to Macbeth play, I can see how we can strengthen some values and points just using symbols. Sometimes, we tend to over-write to make sure our reader/audience gets our message. But symbols, they are just powerful!

p/s gosh I really hate typing on this netbook. Too small for my semi-slim fingers. Unable to use my own laptop for I am watching football right now. LOL

(6) Macbeth Video Project II Aftermath

Ha meh sini koi nak kabo pasei Mekbeh jap eh? HAHAHA!
Alright, above is what I have in my mind after finish doing Macbeth video project number two. It was awesome and I am very proud of the outcome, and what have happened during the making of the video. We have a good time. Less pressure in the atmosphere. Fun. Fun. We are young.

Now I'm getting to know why freedom is so important. Why each land wants their own freedom. What makes people to form resistance group to fight for their own freedom. Why people when to war to protect or to achieve freedom. Because when freedom is obtained, so much harmonious things can happen. As for me, in the context of the video making, we have much space for us to perform the video project.
First of all, we have the freedom of the language. Seriously, we do really want to master a language in order to work on that particular language. A French instructor will have a nightmare to facilitate the Latinas and Latinos as there is a huge language barrier. That what have happened to us during the first  video project. BUT thankfully, producing the second project in our very own language do give us huge handicap. It is just, totally different from the first one.
Secondly, the atmosphere was much more friendly and calm. Thus, we manage to work more effectively and can generate more ideas. Because we are not bounded by the alien language and the original text yet at the same time we manage to keep the main message/point of the scene. Things were just much more helpful to us.

Thirdly, I can see how this activity could be meaningful to reluctant students at school. We cant learn and master a language within a day, a week or a month. How wonderful it would be if such activity can attract our students' interest in certain literary work. Although there would be much original language left out, but at least this activity can be the stepstone for them to have a bit of interest in the literary work. Rather than forcing them to like a text, why dont we invoke them. Give them space to work the way that is less impossible for them.

I really wanted to say the third point because it has work greatly for me. I did, have much intention to find out what had driven Macbeast to streak on a killing spree after he have murdered his close COMPANION. Means, the task has triggered my to have more interest in the story. Not only by reading it, but try to read between those classical lines.

That is all. Working on for the next entry all the way from the East Coast of Malaysia.

(5) Macbeth Video Project I Aftermath

I thought ol' English has given an interesting introduction session to me. As for reading, I bet yes. The walls have been torn down, or atleast half. But looking back at the video project, Act 3 Scene 3, Old English is still a nightmare to utter to. Had a really terrible experience in remembering the lines. And not to forget, to thanks the rain for adding salt on my wounds caused by Old English Macbeth lines. ARGHH!

Disappointment. That is all I can say. But, I'm not blaming anyone else for this. Maybe I have tackled this Old English thing the wrong way. Or maybe extra efforts should have been made. But what to do, the past is past. What's done is done. Tragically, the week that we have made the first video project was a very very very very very very very very very very hell of a week. Hectic frantic and wasnt fantastic, at all.

So, dear me. Although I have always have the same resolution since the past 10 years, but please please please, do please not to have procrastination running in your lifestyle anymore. You will never know when things such as that week ( the hectic frantic week) will ever happen again. You never gonna see it coming. Things happen.

But, the video project II was totally opposite. Wait for my next response.

Thank You All, Thank You Macbeth.

I sat on my chair starring at my laptop, click on my browser, log in to USPOT and straight to our blog, hey Macbeth!. It  has been a long journey, a great journey,  I go through every post that my friend and I have posted, all I can say is that I’m actually proud of myself. Today, more or less, I know Macbeth. Even no deep as anyone, but at least I know the story line. I know thane of Glamis, I know thane of Cawdor.

Looking back during the first time I was assigned to the Macbeth, I though it was a joke, how on earth a person like me could commit myself reading ultra-alien-space language!? But I though, just follow the flow.

At first it’s very hard; I don’t even understand what Macbeth is all about. I thought that I’m not going to understand this Macbeth forever. Lucky after a few week, since ms Dzeelfa keep rushing and pushing us, I got to do something, I started by watching Macbeth in animation series, quiet interesting, I said to myself, starting from that I slowly begin to start my journey in understanding Macbeth.

I learnt a lot from the entire project involving Macbeth, from adaptation and strategies in reading and old English language book.

The classroom discussion really helps me in understanding Macbeth; explanations by Miss Dzeelfa and feedback from others fellow classmates has open up my perspective. One thing that I realised is during 1^st time I went through Macbeth text, during the first chapter, I’d say that Macbeth is a good person, he just innocent and influenced by Lady Macbeth. But as the story goes by, I realized that Macbeth himself is actually an evil, he keep feeding his greediness and leads towards many murders.

I would like to see a remake of the Macbeth movie with a modern effects and technology; it would be a wonderful movie, maybe Macbeth crossover with star wars, Macbeth in star wars setting.  Fighting with light saber and so on.

As sum up for this Macbeth journey, I think I have achieved what I aim for, my aim for Macbeth is actually just to know the characters, the story line, and a bit about important events, I guess I manage to achieve my goal. I might be continued to read Macbeth because I still haven’t finish reading the original text especially at the final chapter.

I’m thinking maybe after this I will look for other Shakespeare great masterpiece, as a casual reader, not as serious as this and of course, with sparknote no fear Shakespeare. J

For this final post I would like to say thank you to all my friends, who directly or indirectly helping me during this Macbeth’s semester, thank you also to my entire team group. And thank you, lots of thank you, zillions of thank you to Miss Dzeelfa.

Macbeth hallucinated about flying dagger.

We can only just imagine how Macbeth hallucinated about the flying dagger, our imaginations are vary from one person to the others and it’s really beautiful, my imagination of flying dagger might be different from you. Everybody is different, everybody have their own interpretation.

Well, all this long we talk about Macbeth as if he was a real person that lives a long time ago in the far away kingdom. We study about him, analyze him, and some fall in love with him.

I wonder how Macbeth is portray in everybody mind? How he look like? I mean the power of imagination. Macbeth life and died in the mind of people who read the story, whoever Macbeth is, good or bad, it all in your mind, your interpretation, that finally will reflect on your own self, your personality and the way you think. It’s all about imagination.

I wonder how my classmates see Macbeth. Our mind is just like a stage, if I could just see my classmate imagination about Macbeth, I really would like to see how they imagine Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, Banquo, King Duncan and many more. I would like to see how they pictured the characters, the setting, the way the characters act, and so on. It’s really a wonderful thing.

This remind me of Macbeth’s hallucination, eventhough this part already discussed so many time in classes, but still, I want to say something about it. I never experienced any sort of hallucination; I wonder how Macbeth could see a flying dagger so clearly. The great battle in his heart and mind cost him to experience hallucination.

Another thing I realise during act 2 scene 1where Macbeth monologue about flaying dagger he said about   “... Witchcraft celebrates Pale Hecate’s offerings,” so I search Hecate in the google and turn up that...

 “Hecate is an ancient goddess who is sometimes depicted as being a triple formed goddess. She has rulership over earth, sea and sky, and is variously associated with crossroads, entrance-ways, fire, light, the Moon, magic, witchcraft, knowledge of herbs and poisonous plants, necromancy and sorcery as well as a more universal role as Saviour (Soteira), Mother of Angels and the Cosmic World Soul.” (Wikipedia)

For me it seems like Macbeth was doing the sacrifice for Hecate.

Imagination is a great thing, use it wisely.
